To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NKJV)

It’s been an interesting summer, to say the least.

I haven’t felt good all summer. Couldn’t really figure it out, but my gut hurt no matter what I ate, and I had reflux with most of it, too. No energy, so I had to really plan around that (shopping today? don’t expect to get the dishes done). Since I knew I had gut issues, my husband and I signed up with a functional medicine practitioner.

But as I came to find out, it was more than that. I apparently had a low-grade infection that I didn’t know about - until it went to my kidneys, then went into sepsis, then into septic shock. Due to a truly miraculous series of events, including a bear attack in the middle of the night, I was in the best place possible when I went into shock, and I survived with all of my limbs. Many people are not so fortunate.

Looking at the chain of events that kept me whole, that made me well (or getting well), made me realize that God really does have everything under control, that even “bad” things can be blessings in the long run. Not that we don’t suffer when bad things happen, but trusting that He can turn it into something good is a practice, an exercise of faith. He has our ultimate good in mind - we can’t see all the twists and turns, but He does.

So I’m looking at the skills he has given me, trying to hear the still, small voice that can guide me to where I can do the most good, those good works He set up for me to do. Trying to focus more on Him and less on me. And being grateful for my family, my friends, the love and caring of my church family, and for each breath I draw, realizing that each one is a gift given.

The experience has also given me a fresh desire to take action. I was fortunate enough recently to help at a Level 1 Aromatherapy class, offered by the Institute of Spiritual Healing & Aromatherapy (ISHA). The refresher was beneficial. The ISHA aromatherapy courses are unique because of their inclusion of energy work, so students get to learn a few energy healing techniques to use with the oils. That’s a synergistic combination!

So expect more articles soon, and I've added a "Resources" section which includes a reading list of books I’ve found to be beneficial!

Stay tuned!

Blessings, and Be Well~
